Management and Senior Staff

At Cwm Care Limited we pride ourselves with the good leadership and management skills of our senior staff. This is achieved by ensuring, as far as is practicable, that they keep their professional development and skills up to date by attending appropriate education/training or information sessions. The sharing of expertise and knowledge with other members of the workforce is encouraged and is fundamental to their management role.  The two weekly providers/managers' meetings provide essential leadership and administrative support to all staff. Regular staff meetings ensure sharing of good practice and addressing of any staff concerns.  Regular staff and individuals' meetings ensure that individuals have a saying in how their homes are run. 

 

Care Staff

The Cwm Care Limited employs staff to provide care and support for individuals 24/7.  It is our policy to educate all our care staff to a minimum of National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) level two in Health and Social Care.  Our regular bank staff have similar qualifications.  We have not used agency staff to date. 

All our care staff commence a 12 week in-house Induction Programme on the first day of employment, with an assessment of their performance being undertaken during and at the end of this period. The programme includes training in the principles of care, safe working practices, the organisation and worker roles, the experiences and particular needs of individuals, and the influences and particular requirements of the service setting. After successful completion, staff not holding vocationally recognised qualification as outlined above, are registered for an appropriate award.

Additional statutory and good practice training is also provided by qualified staff from within the home, but if appropriate or necessary this is sought from external and accredited training providers. All staff are provided with five paid days training per year. All care workers have a personal Professional Development Plan (PDP) based on an assessment of their needs in meeting the requirements of their respective job roles.  They also undergo regular supervision. 

 

Volunteers

Cwm Care Limited has not used volunteers yet in its homes but would value and respect the contributions that they could make to the care of individuals.  We are exploring this area and looking for any interested persons wishing to volunteer.  Such persons will receive training and supervision that supports the role they undertake.

Annual mandatory training is provided in-house (taken by one of our managers who also facilitates training on Blaenau Gwent's Induction Course) and at Blaenau Gwent Training Unit.  Bi-monthly supervision sessions assess staff competencies and highlight any training needs.  We are committed to providing our individuals with a highly trained staff.  This also gives the staff career progression opportunities both within the company and across the partnership.

We encourage flexible working hours to provide staff with a good work/life balance.
