Sonael Bungalow

back to homes

Sonael Bungalow was the first home acquired by Sonael Care Homes Limited in 2007.  Sonael Care Homes Limited  became Cwm Care Limited in 2010. The Bungalow is licensed for four young adults with a learning disability.  It has been used for this purpose since 1992.  It is a 5-bedroom dormer bungalow situated in the village of Beaufort, Ebbw Vale.  The bungalow is near the A465 Heads of the Valleys corridor, 20 miles north of the M4, Cardiff and Newport and near the Brecon Beacons National Park. The home provides abundant shared spaces which complement and supplement four individual bedrooms for individuals.

The bedrooms are fully furnished to individual requirements and specifications.  Individuals choose the furniture and decorations in their rooms.  The bedrooms provide independence and optimal privacy for individuals.  Each bedroom fully complies with required standards including individual TVs, wardrobe and adequate space for storage of personal possessions.

There is a large living room, a large kitchen/ breakfast room, and 2 bathrooms.  One bathroom consists of large wet room. The other bathroom has a bath and shower facilities.  Individuals also choose the furniture and decorations in the shared areas. Wi-Fi is available and individuals are encouraged IT skills.

There is a spacious conservatory which provides a panoramic view across the Valley.  The ground at the back of the property is divided into distinct areas.  A decked area decorated like a ship deck leads down to a paved sun terrace. A ramp further leads down to the sensory lawn area where individuals and staff relax on a sunny day.  The ramp also provides wheelchair access to the organic vegetable garden with raised beds to make gardening easy.

The front and back of the bungalow can be accessed by wheelchair.  Shops and GP surgery are only a few minutes walk from the bungalow.  Individuals find this very useful.  Sonael Bungalow currently has no vacancy for individuals.

By Mrs Susan Boulter: Support Worker: 2013

Within this bungalow in Beaufort, four special people reside.
Living each new day, with dignity and pride

There is just one gentle man, his name is John
The ladies are called Marilyn*, Molly and Yvonne.
Each individuals character, is totally unique,
But their goals are the same, which each of them seek.

Marilyn* likes her cross stitch, and a nice soak in the bath,
She enjoys a bit of banter and has such a cheeky laugh.
John likes going for walks, he has his own routine,
And joining in a sing song he is always very keen.
Molly she loves china dolls in her bedroom they’re on view,
She also likes to read a magazine or two.
Yvonne has a fondness for weddings, going shopping and buying treats,
She has a generous nature and will share with you her sweets.

So varying their characters, so different are their ways,
And it’s always their choice how they spend their days.
With some help and support from a dedicated team
Their goals become reality and not just a dream.

It’s a joy to know these people, and when staff deliver care,
It is foremost in their minds of their residents welfare.
Policies and Procedures are always followed through
In all of the tasks, that each day we have to do.
As long as we are needed, we will always be there,
Committed to the vulnerable,
Why?    Because we care
